The Tempest

I’ll forever remember this song as the one that accompanied me through the worst and most debilitating period of depression that I’ve ever experienced.

Mid-exam Stress Relief

December 9, 2008

So.

Exam time.

They’re practically MURDERING me.

I’m gaining weight cuz I’m spending all my time studying/trying not to be depressed.

These two sites are ones I practically LIVE on (in conjunction with Windows Live Messenger, of course)

http://www.towerdefence.net/

Tower defence games = the BEST timekillers ever.

and

http://www.di.fm/

I live on the Vocal Trance channel. Seriously. Latest discoveries off it include Rachel Loy’s “I Can Feel It (Lovin’ Me)”, and Oceanlab’s “Satellite”. Sooo wonderful… T__T

Rachel Loy (this particular remix is rather happy hardcore…and I like it…how unusual. There ARE other more trance-ish remixes though.)

Interesting songs

May 25, 2008

I think my taste in music is pretty varied. I mean, I listen to all kinds of things, from many genres. Metal, trance, trip-hop, rap, reggaeton (yes, I know, bad me), dancehall…I can find something good about all of them.

What I think I like most, though, is really depressing or desperate-sounding music. I’m not exactly sure why. I guess it’s kind of emo when you think about it, heh. Don’t get me wrong, happy music has its place (yeah, a place far away from me most of the time) and actually works for me sometimes, but honestly, the darker, hopeless, sometimes sociopathic side of music is what really has me.

Here are examples of what I like, a few songs with my favourite bits of them.

For emo/scene (I so don’t really know the difference here)…I generally stick to people BAWWW-ing about how their love lives have fucked up. This is possibly my least favourite alternative genre, but there are still really good bits to it, such as:

‘My Black Dahlia’ by Hollywood Undead.
“I wish I could I could have quit you.
I wish I never missed you,
And told you that I loved you,
Every time I fucked you.”

‘Stupid Kill’ by The Legion Of Doom
“There are things that used to make you cry
One of them was me for just a little while”

(actually, LoD is one of my all-time favourite bands. Go figure)

For alt-rock (sorry, I’m not a purist, I really couldn’t tell between alt-rock or rock and really, I don’t mind sticking punk and progressive in the same pile) I like….

Deftones. Nuff said.

A Perfect Circle. (And Tool, which is metal, and Puscifer…whatever band this guy makes is GOLD)

‘The Nurse Who Loved Me’ by A Perfect Circle
“I’m taking her home with me…all dressed in white
She’s got everything I need…some pills in a little cup
She’s falling hard for me…I can see it in her eyes
She acts just like a nurse with all the other guys”

(poor deluded guy)

For rock (yes, more sad mixing of genres, I know)

Apocalyptica. Forever these guys. Seriously. Check out “Path”, “Repressed” and “Helden” if you like lyrics, “Kaamos”, “Ruska” and “Missconstruction” if you like pure instrumentals.

‘Stay With Me (Unlikely)’ by Celldweller
“I don’t have much else to say (unlikely)
I’d rather you go away (unlikely)
I don’t need something from you (unlikely)
Though some say I will heal over time
It doesn’t seem too likely
It seems unlikely
…please, don’t go”

(Celldweller, another all-time fave)

For….ohgodyes….METAL! We have…

‘Pazuzu’ by Behemoth
“Ihe desertstorms can not be tamed
When concubine of chaos begins her dance
Reveal to us overwhelming might
Release Thy rage destroyer of lies”

‘Sinners Defeat’ by Mors Principium Est
“You may keep me as a sinner
A servant for suffering
I tore the skins from the liars
And sent them burning to the sea”

‘Ithyphallic’ by Nile
“As for mine enemies
Let their charred ashes
Be as discarded refuse
Lying forgotten in the desert
Let their shades not rise again”

All three of these bands are absolutely wonderful and I love them…and there are so many more…Rammstein, Amon Amarth, In Flames, Nevermore, Tristania, Dimmu Borgir (though I’m ashamed to admit that one), Sometimes I stray to trance, and we flirt for extended periods of time and make all sorts of extravagant promises…but my heart really belongs to metal, heh.

Anyway there was really no point to this post other than to ramble on about music…and I haven’t even touched electronica or dancehall yet…hehe…
